Bone Health Basics: Get the Facts

Calcium (Ca)” .  Both men and women are affected with osteoporosis and currently, about 54 million Americans suffers this condition.  The risk of osteoporosis decreases with a healthy diet that includes adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D and K throughout life.  In addition, some kind of weight-bearing exercises such as walking, jogging, playing soccer, basketball, etc.  needs to be included.  Our current lifestyle keeps us busy from the minute we wake up to the minute we go back to bed and most of us do not include some daily exercise routine and/or do not have time to prepare healthy meals at home.  And the American Western diet is all wrong for our bone health!  We are busy BUT this does not mean that we can not start paying attention to our bones to keep them healthy and reduce the risk of osteoporosis:  If we are going to keep eating a Western diet,

what do you suggest to include in our daily meals to get the minerals needed to maintain our bones healthy?

If we do not have time to exercise, what can we do to add some type of weight-bearing exercise daily?

What else can we do in our daily busy lifestyle to reduce the risk of osteoporosis?
